Frequently asked questions
What is Alpha Center's Standard of Care?
Alpha Center provides medical services under the direction and supervision of a local, licensed OB/GYN physician with over 30 years of experience. All medical professionals in clinic are registered nurses and provide gestational dating ultrasound with additional training.
How Do I Know If I'm Pregnant?
There are several early symptoms of pregnancy, including the following:
- A late period
- Tender, swollen breasts
- Increased urination
- Fatigue
- Nausea, with or without vomiting
Some women experience all of these symptoms immediately. Other women don’t experience any for weeks or months later. Your experience is as unique as you are.
Begin by taking our Pregnancy Symptoms Quiz. If you think you are pregnant, take a pregnancy test. We offer free testing. In most cases, our nurses can then confirm your test result with an ultrasound.
What is a Pre-Abortion Screening?
A positive pregnancy test is only an indication of a possible pregnancy. You need more information. Our pre-abortion screening appointments provide free pregnancy testing, an ultrasound if applicable, and STI testing to ensure your health and well-being no matter your pregnancy choice.
When Should I get an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound is essential for confirming your pregnancy. After you meet with one of our nurses and take a lab-quality pregnancy test, we will evaluate your eligibility for an ultrasound. An ultrasound scan determines if your pregnancy is growing with a detectable heartbeat, its location, and how far along you are.
Does Alpha Center Provide Abortions?
Alpha Center does not provide or refer for abortions, nor are referrals needed to obtain an abortion. Because of this, Alpha Center has no financial interest in your pregnancy decision. We do provide accurate information on all abortion procedures, expected side effects, and potential risks because we believe that all women deserve informed consent.
Does Alpha Center Take Insurance?
Everything that Alpha Center provides is completely free, so no insurance is needed, nor is your insurance billed. We will need to see your ID at your first appointment to verify your identity.
Do I Have to Be A Christian to be a Patient?
Not at all! In 2024, 62% of our STI patients and 22% of our pregnancy patients reported having no spiritual beliefs.
Alpha Center’s Christian faith means that we value each person that we see no matter their faith or circumstances because we believe that you matter. We believe that your spirituality plays a role in your overall health, so while we will ask about how your beliefs play a role in your life, you do not have to share if that is not something you’re comfortable with.
Does Alpha Center Serve Transgender Patients?
Absolutely. Alpha Center provides our services to anyone who needs them. It is important to note that your current anatomy will determine the kind of testing that is done (urine sample or vaginal self-swab), so you will be asked by our nurse to determine which is necessary for you.
Does Alpha Center Share My Information with Any Third Parties?
No. As a health clinic, we follow state laws regarding reporting and confidentiality and do not share your personal information with third parties. Test results can be sent to your doctor’s office upon your request and with a signed Authorization to Release Information.
Read our privacy policy here.
Does Alpha Center Receive Government Funding?
No. Alpha Center is funded through private donors as well as local businesses and churches.
This is a Planned Pregnancy and I Just Want To Make Sure Everything is Okay - Is Alpha Center Right For Me?
If this is a planned pregnancy and you have established care with an OBGYN, Alpha Center may not be a good fit for you. Our appointments and ultrasounds are geared towards women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, with the goal of answering questions that are vital to the decision making process. If you are looking for peace of mind, reach out to your OBGYN or visit Tender Gifts Midwifery (formerly Moments Captured) or Blossom Baby Co, which offer peace of mind packages.
It’s important to note, that while Alpha Center’s medical services might not be the best fit, our client services are available to and beneficial for anyone! If your concern is because of a previous loss, we are so sorry. If you are interested, we can connect you with our Pregnancy Loss Support volunteer, who has been where you are and would be honored to support you. For more information about parenting support, connections to local resources, or professional counseling, call 970.221.5121 ext. 302 to speak with our Community Services team.
Do Your Counselors Prescribe Medication?
Alpha Center’s professional counselors are not psychiatrists, and as such they are not able to prescribe nor refill psychiatric medication.
What are the Signs of a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI)?

- Discharge from the vagina or penis
