In 2021, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there are 2.5 million new STD infections in the United States alone, and over half of new infections (53% in 2020) were in individuals between 15-24 years of age.

The truth is that if you are sexually active (vaginal, oral, and/or anal), you are at risk of acquiring and/or passing on an STD, whether or not you or your partner are presenting with symptoms. Many STDs are asymptomatic, so the only way to find out for sure if you have one is to be tested on a regular basis. Untreated STDs can lead to long-term complications, such as infertility in young women (for untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea) and a higher risk of acquiring HIV.

If you’re sexually active, it is recommended that you are screened with each new sexual partner. Alpha Center in Fort Collins offers routine STD screening and treatment at no cost to you up to twice per year. As we offer our services at no cost, insurance is not billed and testing is able to be confidential. (Please note, if you are a part of the Banner Health System, your results can show up in your patient file.)
