Offering Hope, Healing, and Support for New Fathers | Colorado Gives Day 2019

This Colorado Gives Day, please join us in providing hope, healing, and support for men and women in our community by donating at https://bit.ly/2lGpWVs. We couldn’t do this work without you!

Over the past few years, it has been weighing heavily on our team’s heart to have a program to help expectant dads as well as our expectant mothers. This year, this prayer began to see fruition as one of our community members, Brian, joined alongside us to begin meeting with dads to encourage them, counsel them, and be a good example of a father in order to give them a head start when it came to their own children.

One such couple, Doug* and Cara*, were very young when they first came to us, and while nervous about carrying and having a baby, they chose life. While Cara joined our new-parent mentoring program, our volunteer Brian began to meet with Doug.

While Doug grew up mostly without the influence of his father, he has a great heart and wanted a different life for his own son. He was open to input and was able to share honestly and connect with Brian. Though he recognizes that the young couple have an uphill climb ahead of them, Brian shared that Doug is a loyal guy and Brian believes that he will care for Cara and the baby.

Another couple, Isaac* and Kristine*, also joined the parent mentoring program. Kristine said “…my mentor is great. She really comforts me with the exciting, and at the same time anxious [time during] the first pregnancy and mom life.”  Isaac was especially excited about getting together with Brian for the father’s mentoring, often initiating the meetings and following the “homework” to take Kristine on a date to talk about expectations once the baby arrived. They now have a baby girl and Isaac hopes to continue to connect with Brian.

We are thankful for Brian’s heart for new fathers and hope to see the program grow in 2019!

If you are interested in joining our father’s mentoring program as a mentor, please email Doreen at doreens@thealphacenter.org or call 970.221.5121. Thank you!
