Considering Abortion?

You’ve come to the right place.

Your pregnancy has come at a difficult time. It’s unplanned, but we’re here for you. We care about you and your abortion decision. You probably have lots of questions about abortion; we provide accurate medical facts. It’s possible that you may not even need an abortion! Approximately 1 in every 5 pregnancies will end naturally by miscarriage. Yes, NATURALLY!

How is it possible that you may not need an abortion?

It turns out that a large fraction of all pregnancies will end naturally without any intervention. “Miscarriage” is the common term used to describe a natural end to a pregnancy (of less than 20 weeks). The medical term is “spontaneous abortion.”

The chance of miscarrying is believed to range between 15% and 50% depending on a variety of factors including the woman’s age. Click here to learn more.

To find out more about how you can check if you’re a likely candidate for miscarriage:

  1. Pick up the phone and call us for an appointment: 970-221-5121.
  2. Once you’re at the center, you’ll be given a high-sensitivity lab-quality urine pregnancy test to establish pregnancy. You’ll be asked a few questions about symptoms and the timing of your last menstrual period (LMP). All consultations and medical results are strictly confidential.
  3. If the pregnancy test is positive, you’ll be scheduled for an ultrasound examination to determine fetal viability. In many cases, the ultrasound can be performed during the same initial visit. Based on the results of this ultrasound exam, medical personnel will be able to tell you whether they are seeing what’s expected in a healthy pregnancy. If fetal viability is not established, then you are a candidate with a high probability of miscarrying. Miscarriage is your body’s natural way of ending a pregnancy. In this case, you wouldn’t need the pain, cost and risk of abortion!

All services provided are free of charge with no further obligation.

ALPHA CENTER DOES NOT PERFORM OR REFER FOR ABORTIONS.

What if the ultrasound confirms that I am pregnant?

There are decisions to make, and because your decision is so important, we want to help you navigate and provide accurate medical education on all of your choices. Our Registered Nurses can answer many of your questions, and help you through this.

Abortion

Abortion is a medical procedure to effect fetal demise (death of the fetus). As with any medically induced chemical or surgical process, patients are advised to understand the risks of complications and/or side-effects. Our registered nurses can give you medically accurate information you need to make an informed decision.

Adoption

The decision to consider adoption is the beginning of a process that you control. Adoption is a parenting decision. Nothing legal or binding can be done prior to the birth of your baby. If you are considering adoption, our state certified adoption specialist can answer any questions that you may have, guide you through exploring adoption, and refer you to a qualified agency if you decide to pursue this option further.

Parenting

Parenting can be an exciting and rewarding new phase of your life. Many single women are now opting to single-parent. Parenting is one of the most rewarding experiences in life and also one of the most challenging. Making the choice to parent a child is not always an easy one. If you choose to parent, Alpha Center can help connect you to the many agencies in our community who can work with you to provide the support you need throughout your pregnancy and after your baby is born. After an Abortion

Alpha Center provides a safe and confidential setting for women to discuss their emotions following an abortion.

Many women experience an immediate feeling of relief following an abortion, some struggle with their decision right away. As time passes many find themselves trying to cope with feelings they did not expect. It is common for women to have difficulty talking about these feelings and many feel isolated and alone. Some psychologists have labeled these problems as Post Abortion Stress.

How do I know I have Post Abortion Stress Syndrome?

These symptoms can affect women as well as men involved in an abortion decision.

  • Sadness
  • Long-term grief reactions
  • Anger
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Guilt
  • Flashbacks
  • Memory repression
  • Suicidal ideas
  • Increased alcohol and drug use
  • Difficulty keeping close relationships
  • Depression
  • Despair
  • Regret
  • Hopelessness

Our After Abortion Care support groups are led by peer counselors specifically trained to understand post-abortion trauma. All groups are conducted in a safe and confidential environment.

If you would like to learn more or would like to discuss joining an After Abortion Care group, please contact Cris Flippen, After Abortion Care Director, Alpha Center, 970-221-5121 ext. 24 or 970-227-6625
